CBGB Bathroom Recreated // Wadsworth Atheneum

June 27, 2010
by

Legendary NYC punk club CBGB was founded in 1973. It soon became a platform for bands like the Ramones, Misfits, Blondie, and my personal favorite, The Talking Heads. Although the club closed in October 2006, its legacy still lives on as the birthplace of Punk.

Artist Justin Lowe recreated the interior of CBGB’s infamous bathroom. He placed a painting by Jackson Pollock (far right) on the graffiti heavy walls, expressing the relationship between abstract expressionism and graffiti.

The installation will run until September 5th at the Wadsworth Atheneum.

Really cool! I only wish the actual stools had nothing on them and were kept plain.

This is probably the way they actually were during the 70’s; grungy and grimy..
