Sans Style // Tareq Alkandari

June 1, 2009

The most recent exhibition at The Sultan Gallery titled Sans Style: an archetypal vision by Architect Tareq AlKandari, featured a collaboration of different mediums including painting, installations, and audio visuals. The result was a full sensory experience.

The elements used were wall, floor, column, and a very special cube (the Kaa’baa). What struck me the most about the pieces in the exhibition was the bold use of geometric lines and shapes. The color palette was also stripped down to basics, using more monochromatic colors to give shape and form.

The lack of decorative style within the exhibition really gave way for a more factual and architectural style. I personally thought it was quite refreshing and beautifully done!
